Shooter Shriyanka Sadangi has made Odisha proud again by booking a berth in the Indian Rifle Team for the upcoming ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021 to be held in New Delhi. Odisha’s Sports & Youth Services Department took to Twitter to make the announcement.

“Odia international Shriyanka Sadangi has sealed her berth in the Indian women rifle team for the ISSF Shooting World Cup, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from March 18 to March 29, 2021,” Odisha’s Sports & Youth Services Department tweeted.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik shared the tweet to congratulate the Sambalpur-born girl on her achievement. “Congratulate #Odisha shooter, Shriyanka Sadangi on being selected in the Indian Women Rifle Team for the upcoming @ISSF_Shooting World Cup scheduled from 18th to 29th March, 2021 in New Delhi. Wish her best,” he wrote.

Shooters from at least 42 countries will participate in the combined World Cup event for rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting sport.

According to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), countries like China, Japan, Germany, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Kuwait refused to send their shooters for the  ISSF World Cup in New Delhi amid the scare of coronavirus pandemic.

For the first time in the history of the event, as many as 30 finals will be held in new team formats.

So far, Sadangi has two international medals to her name that she won at Hannover, Germany, in January 2019. She won silver medals at the 13th South Asian Games 2019 in Kathmandu and the 9th Asian Airgun Championship in Tehran in 2016.

In 2014, Sadangi was selected in the Indian team for the 51st ISSF World Shooting Championship in Spain. She claimed gold medals in the Junior International Shooting Championship in Germany in 2012 and the fourth Asian Airgun Shooting Championship in Kuwait in 2011.
