The Odisha government has decided to spend Rs 200 crore to renovate the Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar. For the first time in history, a state of the art film hub will be created at the Kalinga Studio by the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).

IDCO Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra chaired the high-level meeting, directing the other members to help create a modern state of the art film studio with keeping a competitive business model in mind.

He also asked the department to proceed with the tendering process and complete the base level construction before monsoon. Mohapatra set a target of December 2022 for the construction and landscaping of the studio.

Development Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Jena asked the IDCO to chalk out the plans for investment, employment and revenue generation.

“Presently, Kalinga studio stands almost in heart of the capital city over an area of around 26 acres. With its nostalgic heritage and profit-making track, it can be developed to a modern film centre with promising future prospects,” industries secretary Hemant Kumar Sharma said as quoted by news agency IANS.

A budget of Rs.200 crore, presented by Sharma, was approved in the meeting. He shared a three-zone plan mainly divided in indoor shooting floors, outdoor shooting facilitates and food court and lodging facilities.
