Odisha-Born Chandi Prasad Mohanty to be Named Vice Chief of Indian Army: Reports
Jagatsinghpur-born Chandi Prasad Mohanty is likely to become the 42nd Vice Chief of the Indian Army. He will be the first man from Odisha to be the Vice Chief, which is the second highest position in the Indian Army after Chief of Army Staff. Mohanty will replace Lt Gen SK Saini, who is set to retire on January 31, 2021.
Currently, Mohanty is acting as the General Officer Commanding in-chief of the Southern Command. He was born in Jagatsinghpur town in the home of JK Mohanty and Late Dr. Sarada Kumari Mohanty. While JK Mohanty retired as the Puri District Sub Registrar, Late Dr. Sarada Kumari was the first lady to complete a PhD in Odia Literature.
Mohanty has two brothers, one of whom KP Mohanty is acting as the General Manager in the Indian Oil Corporation with other DP Mohanty practicing as an advocate.
Until Class VI, Mohanty studied at Bagashai UP School before taking admission in the Rashtriya Indian Military College in Dehradun. The 1982 batch Infantry Officer of Rajput Regiment completed his military training in the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.
