Justice S Muralidhar took oath as the 32nd Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court in the presence of Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal at Raj Bhavan on Monday. Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were Law Minister Pratap Jena, Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra, Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik, DGP Abhay and ACS Home Sanjeev Chopra.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to congratulate Justice Muralidhar. “Congratulate Justice Dr S Muralidhar on being appointed as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Welcome him to #Odisha and wish him a successful tenure,” he tweeted.

Justice Muralidhar, who was born on August 8, 1961, took the charge of the Odisha High Court from Justice Mohammad Rafiq. He has been practising law since September 12, 1984, having worked in Chennai, Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

On May 29, 2006, Justice Muralidhar was appointed as an Additional Judge of Delhi High Court. He became a Permanent Judge in the same court on August 29, 2007. However, he was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court overnight on March 6, 2020 during the Delhi violence case hearing in February.
