Supreme Court Recommends S Muralidhar as Odisha High Court Chief Justice
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Dr. S Muralidhar as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Justice Hima Kohli will be elevated as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Justice Muralidhar made headlines when he was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court overnight during the Delhi violence case hearing in February.
India’s oldest High Court in Odisha will also see the appointment of Acting Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, Rajesh Bindal, as the senior-most Judge after Chief Justice Muralidhar. The notifications of the transfers will be issued in the coming days.
According to a report published by Tribune India, the Supreme Court is planning to elevate Justice Bindal as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court in the future.
Recently, Justice Bindal impressed one and all after he launched a justice delivery system in the post offices in Jammu and Kashmir. Now, the citizens from at least 11 districts of Jammu and Kashmir are allowed to register their disputes with the local post offices.
Justice Bindal also heads a committee constituted by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), in the association of which he has suggested optimal use of technology, including Artificial Intelligence, in delivering justice.
On March 22, 2006, Justice Bindal was elevated as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He headed a multi-member committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development that studied the International Child Abduction Bill-2016. In April 2018, Justice Bindal submitted a report along with the draft of the Protection of Children (Inter-Country Removal and Retention) Bill-2018.
