Following the recommendation by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the state Lokayukta asked its vigilance department to conduct an inquiry against Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahy and submit the report within two months.

The Lokayutka will issue a summon notice against Panigrahy in the next few days. On December 7, CM Patnaik had referred the corruption allegations against Panigrahy to the Lokayukta and asked for an investigation.

On December 9, the DSP of Vigilance department, Bhubaneswar, had lodged a formal complaint against Panigrahy. This is the first case of corruption charges against a Public servant that have been referred to the Lokayukta.

According to the complaint prima facie, Panigrahy possesses assets that are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

“We, therefore, by exercising powers conferred under section 20(1) of the Odisha Lokayukta Act, 2014, direct the Directorate of Vigilance, Odisha, Cuttack, to conduct a preliminary inquiry against Panigrahy and submit report within two months,” the Lokayutka order said.

On December 3, the Crime Branch police had arrested Panigrahy for planning the recruitment scam. Allegedly, Panigrahy had collected money on behalf of Akash Pathak.
