The United Kingdom has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for prevention against COVID-19, announcing that the process of vaccination will start from next week.

The coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 1.5 million global population and severely affected the economy.

“The government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use,” the government said in a statement.

“The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week,” the statement read further.

A committee has been constituted to decide the priority groups that will get the first dosages of the vaccine. Care home residents, health staff and clinically vulnerable people are expected to be on the top of the priority.
