One Million People to Live in “Glass Domes” on Mars by 2050, Says Elon Musk
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to share a housing plan on Mars, claiming that as many as one million people will shift to the “glass domes” on the red planet by 2050. Recently a Twitter user asked Musk, “When people arrived on Mars, would the planet already be terraformed or would people have another way created by SpaceX to survive on the red planet?”
Sharing his housing plan, Musk replied: “Life in glass domes at first. Eventually, terraformed to support life, like Earth”.
“We can establish a human base there in our lifetime. At least a future spacefaring civilization – discovering our ruins – will be impressed humans got that far,” he said in another tweet.
Earlier, Musk had proposed the idea of a nuclear attack on Mars to terraform the red planet. He had further said that after the bombing, Mars will be supportive enough for human life. However, Musk believes that the settlement will not happen before 2050 with this method.
On the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2015, Musk had first spoken about the idea of making Mars warmer like Earth. He was of the opinion that a slow nuclear bombing and gradual release of the greenhouse gases will fill the atmosphere with much carbon dioxide to support the human life.
According to Musk’s initial theory, a massive amount of heat can be produced with the help of nuclear energy, which is capable of heating up the entire Martian atmosphere.
