Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, in his memoir ‘A Promised Land’, has compared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with a school student who is “eager to impress” his teacher but lacks either aptitude or passion to master the subject. The book, which will be published in two volumes, was recently reviewed by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for The New York Times.

While Obama has mentioned several American as well as world leaders in his autobiography, Rahul Gandhi’s description has caught everyone’s attention.

Obama, who acted as the 44th president of the US from 2009 to 2017, also mentioned Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh in his book.

“We are told of the handsomeness of men like Charlie Crist and Rahm Emanuel, but not the beauty of women, except for one or two instances, as in the case of Sonia Gandhi,” Obama said, referring to the Congress president.

Talking about former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh, Obama called him much similar to former US Secretary of Defence, Bob Gates. “Secretary of Defense Bob Gates and the Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh both come across as having a kind of impassive integrity,” Obama wrote in his book.

Published by Penguin Random House, A Promised Land’s first volume will be released on November 17.
