What started as an April Fools joke in 2018 ended up being a hot-selling product. On Thursday, electric automaker Tesla (TSLA) launched its own brand of liquor and guess what, it got sold out soon after the announcement. Priced at $250 on Tesla’s website, the sale was limited to two bottles per buyer. Tesla Tequila was available for delivery in certain US states because of the laws on the online sale of alcohol.

Produced by Nosotros Tequila, a popular spirits brand in Southern California, the liquor was available in a lightning-shaped bottle. It is mounted on a metallic stand that has the logo of the brand.

Back then, Tesla CEO Elon Musk joked that the company was filing for bankruptcy alongside a picture of himself “found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by ‘Teslaquilla’ bottles”. Musk later shared a ‘visual approximation’ of the bottles followed by applying for a trademark.

Well, this is not the first time Tesla has grabbed the attention by selling unconnected products. Earlier, it has sold flamethrowers, hats and also limited-edition shorts. In the beginning of this year, the firm sold mini red gym shorts for $69.420 each. The product was actually a playful hit back at those investors who had “shorted” it.
