Soyeb Aftab, an 18-year-old boy from Odisha’s Rourkela, has secured record 720 out of 720 marks to top the 2020 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The coveted exam is conducted every year for the students who seek admission in the undergraduate medical courses.

Soyeb said he wishes to be a cardiologist after completing his medical studies. He appeared for the exam amid the coronavirus pandemic that caused lockdown, which helped him study even harder.

“I haven’t gone back to my hometown since 2018. I studied around 10 to 12 hours every day. I stayed in Kota with my mother and younger sister to study,” Soyeb said as quoted by NDTV.

“I want to work for economically weaker sections in the society. I want to motivate youngsters so they can work hard and be of use to our nation,” he added.

The timing of the NEET 2020 was criticised by many as most of the students in Kota had petitioned to return home for complete safety amid the COVID-19 outbreak. However, Soyeb didn’t lose the patience and stayed in Kota with his mother and sister to continue his coaching at Kota’s famous Allen Career Institute.

Soyeb’s 100 percent result is a record first in the history of the examination. The Odisha boy can opt for admission in the Delhi’s All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) without any trouble. The premier institute is where Soyeb always wanted to specialise for cardiac surgery.
