Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Prateek Singh said a 15-year-old girl, who is a class IX student from Jagatsinghpur district, has alleged that two men gangraped her for 22 days in Cuttack. She added that the accused men also made objectionable videos and threatened to make them viral on the internet.

The Odisha Police has arrested one person, while the hunt for his accomplice is underway.

“We have launched a manhunt for the other accused. A team has been constituted to nab the second accused,” Singh said.

Three weeks ago, the girl had come to stay at her elder sister’s house in Cuttack’s Professorpada region. Her brother-in-law had asked her to leave and go back home.

Following the incident, the opposition BJP was quick to launch a scathing attack on the ruling BJD, claiming that the women are no longer safe in the state.

“Crime against women is on the rise in the state. The Class-IX girl student who was gang-raped for 22 days is from Tirtol, how will the government face the people during the forthcoming bypoll? How come the police were unaware of the incident? What was the police doing,” Odisha BJP leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar said.

“State Women Commission chief speaks up when it suits BJD’s political purpose. Similarly, the women and child development minister, home minister and chief minister who make tall claims about women safety are completely silent,” she added.
