Odisha’s Krushi Bhawan has won the Global Architecture Award at the prestigious AZ Awards 2020. The building became the “People’s Choice Winner” in the Social Good Category.

No other Indian architectural project was nominated for the globally recognised award.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated the award to the farmers and artisans of Odisha, calling them a source of inspiration.

“Odisha’s architectural marvel Krushi Bhavan has added another feather to its hat, emerging as Peoples Choice Winner in SocialGood category at the prestigious AZAward20. This award is dedicated to farmers and artisans of Odisha, the inspiration behind design of this building,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a tweet.

Earlier, Krushi Bhawan had scripted history when it featured in Dezeen. The Bhubaneswar-based building is the first-ever building from the state and India’s first government building to feature in the internationally acclaimed architecture journal.

According to a report published by NDTV, the building was designed with the prize money received from the Odisha government along with the Krishi Karman Awards in the consecutive years. Studio Lotus designed the building using the Sambalpuri saree designs, Odisha Ikat and intricate brickwork.

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment has its administrative offices inside the Krushi Bhawan.
