Odisha Plans Eco Retreats For 5 Locations This Year to Revive COVID Hit Tourism Sector
The Odisha Government is set to organise “Eco Retreat” for a second time at the state’s most popular tourist destinations to revive the tourism sector in the winter season. The tourism in Odisha, like any other state, has not been up to the mark due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier from December 15 to February 15, an Eco Retreat was organised at the Ramchandi beach in Konark. This year, the state tourism department has decided to organise Eco Retreat to five popular tourist destinations.
Badmul in Satkosia, Bhitarkanika’s Nalitapatia, Daringibadi, Hirakud and the Ramchandi beach are among the five sites selected for the luxury camping plan.
With respect to the social distancing norms to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Eco Retreat will be scheduled on different dates from December 1 to February 28. The tented cottages will accommodate the tourists with all the luxuries, including restaurants, sports activities and cultural events. The Odisha tourism department added that the service will be as good as any 3 star category hotel.
“Several efforts are on to position the State prominently in the domestic and international tourist source markets. We will be able to attract more tourists if we can organise events like Eco Retreat,” Tourism Director Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav said as quoted by The New Indian Express.
“The feedback was people want to spend more if they are provided quality facilities. Based on the experience, we want to provide the tourists luxurious accommodation at the lap of the nature. People may not prefer to visit crowded places during Covid times, but they would like to visit in close settings. Events like Eco Retreat will be best option for them. We will also facilitate their travel to nearby destinations by organising day-tours,” Jadhav added.
