The University of Bristol in the United Kingdom has granted a scholarship of over Rs 2.5 crore to Jaya Sagar of Manali, Himachal Pradesh, for a four-year long postgraduate research programme. Jaya will leave for the research programme on September 8.

Jaya is the only student from Asia to claim the Zutshi-Smith scholarship, which selected only 10 students out of more than 400 applicants from across the globe.

Jaya has completed engineering in electronics & communication at the National Institute of Technology in Hamirpur. In the UK, she will join a PhD course in the quantum computing.

During her schooling at Manali Public School, Jaya had represented Himachal Pradesh in the 10th national-level Children’s Science Congress. In 2013, Jaya had won a gold medal at the IRIS National Science Fair in Bangalore.

In 2014, Jaya won two awards for the country at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States. She was participating with child scientists from 80 countries in the competition.

Jaya also has a copyright to her name for an innovation in the field of hydropower and apple farming.
