Two Doctors Among Eight Arrested For Attack on Journalist and Police in Odisha’s Kendrapara
Two doctors and six other staff members of a private nursing home in Kendrapara town of Odisha were arrested for assaulting a journalist and a police official. Dr Debasish Sahoo and Dr Sibasish Sahoo, sons of Dr Parsuram Sahoo — the owner of the nursing home — were arrested and moved to a local court on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, one local journalist had visited the nursing home at around 9 pm to cover a story but met with objection from the two doctors after he was caught capturing a video of the premises on his mobile phone.
The doctors called up their staff members and started assaulting the journalist before snaching his mobile phone and motorcycle.
The Kendrapara Town Police IIC received the information of the incident from an administrative official and immediately sent ASI Soumya Ranjan Jali to the spot.
The ASI asked the doctors to return the journalist’s property but they refused.
The doctor brothers went on to misbehave with the ASI after he asked for the CCTV footage.
The journalist lodged a complaint and police arrested the accused doctors along with six employees of the nursing home. According to media reports, Dr Sibashish and Dr Debasish are on government duty at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack and Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital respectively.
