If you think gangster Vikas Dubey’s encounter was full of drama and thrill, here is the story of his 16-year-old associate Prabhat Mishra — also known as Kartikey — who had cleared Class 12 exams 10 days before being shot in an encounter by the UP Police.

According to Kartikey’s family, he had cleared Class 12 UP school board exams on June 29 and his Aadhar Card and Class 10 mark sheet prove his birth date as May 27, 2004.

Kartikey, a neighbour of Dubey, was arrested by the Haryana Police on July 8 in Faridabad. The police had a tip-off about Dubey’s presence in Faridabad and Kartikey was arrested on suspicion along with a father-son duo. Two government police pistols, two other pistols and 45 live rounds were recovered from the place of arrest.

The UP Police said in their statement that Kartikey attempted to flee and snatched a pistol to open fire when the police van broke down en route to Kanpur. Kartikey was shot dead in the retaliatory firing, the police added.

Kartikey’s mother Geeta Mishra told The Indian Express that she had asked Kartikey to leave the village after the Kanpur shootout as she had noticed neighbouring men fleeing in the fear of police action.

She added that Kartikey aspired to join the Air Force and was good in studies as he scored over 78 percent marks in Class 10 and 61 percent in Class 12 exams.
