Journalist Dies Of Coronavirus, First Case Of Virus-Infected Scribe’s Death In Odisha
Odisha has reportedly recorded the first case of journalist death due to the COVID-19. As per media reports, Priyadarshi Patnaik, a journalist working with Odia newspaper ‘The Samaja’, has succumbed to the coronavirus infection.
The government is yet to announce any confirmation of the news but the various reports in the regional media state that he was a resident of Hinjili area in Ganjam district and was admitted to the COVID-19 specialised hospital in Sitalapalli, Berhampur, before being shifted to the KIMS COVID-19 hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Kalinga TV quoted Priyadarshi’s brother saying that the journalist was on ventilator support for the last seven days and breathed his last on Saturday.
The Ganjam district is one of the most infected regions in Odisha. A total of 3,634 positive cases have been reported from the region, with 36 deaths due to the COVID-19. One of the infected persons died due to diseases other than coronavirus.
