Wanted gangster Vikas Dubey, the mastermind of the July 3 Kanpur ambush, was arrested at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. On July 3, eight Uttar Pradesh police personnel were killed in an encounter in Dikru village of Kanpur. The personnel from Chaubepur Police Station were trying to arrest the history-sheeter of more than 60 criminal cases.

Here is the complete timeline of the events until Vikas Dubey’s arrest:

July 3: Vikas Dubey and his aides killed eight UP police personnel, including Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables of the Chaubepur Police Station. As many as four pistols and 44 live cartridges were recovered by the police.

July 6: UP Special Task Force arrested Adarsh Nigam, son of Dubey’s brother-in-law.

July 7: Professional integrity of 68 personnel of the Chaubepur Police Station was questioned before being transferred to district police lines. There was suspicion over the police’s involvement in saving the gangster. On the same day, the UP government increased the reward on the wanted gangster from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

July 8: The Special Task Force spotted Dubey but he managed to flee. On the same day, Dubey’s aides Amar Dubey and Shyamu Bajpai were arrested from Maudaha village and Chaubeypur respectively.

July 9: Dubey was arrested from Ujjain’s famous Mahakaleshwar Mandir.
