Prominent disease researcher Dr Anthony Fauci has predicted that the United States might record 100000 cases of coronavirus pandemic every day if its citizens continue to move in the wrong direction.

“We are now having 40-plus-thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around, and so I am very concerned,” Fauci said as quoted by the Associated Press.

The infectious disease chief at the National Institutes of Health added that not all Americans are taking precautions to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

“Clearly we are not in control right now,” Fauci said, requesting the Americans to wear mark and follow social distancing norms amid the health crisis.

On Tuesday, the US recorded more than 40,000 COVID-19 positive cases, which is for the fourth time in the past five days as per a report published by BBC.

The recent spike in the number of cases has been reported from southern and western states of the US and at least 16 states were forced to delay their unlocking plans, CNN reported.

Dr Fauci told the US Senate in a hearing that about half of new COVID-19 cases have come mainly from four states — Florida, Arizona, Texas and California.
