As many as 170 health workers and officials fighting at the frontline of the battle against COVID-19 tested positive for the deadly virus in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, police personnel and health workers were among those 170 people who have been admitted to the coronavirus specialised hospitals.

The state of Odisha had recorded as many as 5962 coronavirus cases until Friday evening. 4291 patients have been recovered from the COVID-19, while 1654 are active cases.

Odisha has recorded 18 deaths so far due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 18th death was informed by the State Health and Family Welfare Department on Twitter on Saturday.

“Regret to inform the demise of a 68-year old Covid positive Male of Ganjam district. He was also suffering from the comorbid conditions of Hypertension and Diabetes,” the H & FW Dept Odisha said on Twitter.

The Ganjam district has reported 58 new cases of the COVID-19 in past 24 hours.

The district has alone recorded 1195 cases so far. As per reports, 811 patients have recovered, while 375 cases are still active. Nine deaths have been recorded within the boundaries of the Ganjam district.
